Hi all,
Decided to treat my sportline to the caravelle headlights they deserve or as some may say should have them in the begining?
After alot of reading on fitting the lights, (mainly on this forum) i thought as my van is only 6 months old i better let the dealership do it.I'm not great on wiring and if they gouge the colour coded stuff they can put it right.
Got it back earlier and first impressions was great, body work ok and all worked ok, i got down the road and thought i'd better check both full beam and dip work both together as i've heard you chaps say if you plug them straight in to the original plugs, the full beam will work and dips go out when you put them on full beam.
Now when i put full beam on the dips go out, but the 2 small side lights stay on, actually the small side lights stay on no matter if its high beam or low beam.
Question is to all you velle owners and converted velle headlight owners, does both the large lights work on full beam?
dipped
full beam
What do you think guys?

I think legally the dipped beam have to go out when the main beam is switched on. So possibly the dealer has fitted them properly (i.e legally)
Not all bad then!!! (sorry!)
On the plus side, if RICK has them wired to all come on then it must be possible - stand by for further info from someone soon
Look damn fine though

Thanks motoYAKA,
Yeah they do finish it off, i spoke to the salesman at the dealership as the tech had gone home, he checked his velle and said they all should come on, but i realise what your saying about the legal thing, being manually levelled and that

Sorry bean, but your lights aren't working as they were intended !.
The standard lights use an " H4 " dual element bulb. One element for low beam and one for high beam.
They both cant be on for very long at the same time as it would cause the bulb to overheat, so one goes out when the other is used.
The velle dipped beam bulb ( light ) stays on when the full beam bulb ( light ) is activated.
They've only done half the job. ( the easy half ).
If youve got velle lights then you want them to work like velle lights !.

To work like velle lights the high/full beam and low/dipped lamps should both be lit on full/high beam
The smaller side lights will be lit as soon as you turn the lights
Side Lights
ON-OFF-OFF
Dipped/low beam
ON-ON-OFF
Full/High beam
ON-ON-ON
If your lights are not working in thisway then the dealer has just plugged them instead of rewiring
hope this helps

hi guys,
update on the lights, vw didn't rewire them, they just plugged them in! but after i questioned them, they realised they'd made a mistake and wired them up properly!
after alot of studying of the wiring diagram the technician said it was easier to bypass the switch on the steering wheel so when on full beam, the dip and full work together, that way there is a fuse both sides? anyway so far so good!
here's some pics
looks better doesn't it

thanks rick, got there in the end!!
cost me alot though, 214 for the lights, then 165 for the fitting, although i never had to pay for the re-work on the wiring, so although it cost me nearly 400! i never paid for the wiring at all.
the technician though said he can do them on the side

thanks rick, got there in the end!!
So, the all-important question:
How much better do you find the twin reflector headlights (for night driving) compared with the standard headlights ?
I've been thinking about doing this too, as I do a fair bit of night driving, but the cost (even more expensive in Oz) has slowed me down. I have a left headlight I bought s'hand, but so far I refuse to pay new prices for the right hand one.

hi guys,
here's my conclusion of the caravelle headlights,
better wide vision at dip although not as great as predicted, a much better full beam again with a wider view but again not as great as i thought they would be, dont get me wrong they're better than the 2 candles i had before but not the dogs b*llocks i thought they'd be.
May look at the bulbs at a later date?
just being curious, does anyone know if the projekt do there headlights for the uk?

Hi Bean,
Thanks for the review.
I have been "waiting" to get my Velle lights but the shipping from the UK has had me stumped. It's good to read that they are an improvement but maybe not as fantastic as we had hoped.
Projekt Zwo only do LHD. They are not offering their light kits with RHD projectors last I contacted them. A pity as the OEM RHD projectors are available...
PZ are offering a headlight auto levelling kit that will work with any lights equipped with range adjustment. I am considering this but honestly would be happy with any form of in cab range adjustment at the moment.
Cheers, MM
